भारतीय संस्कृति ने केवल भारत ही नहीं अपितु इसने अपनी छाप आस पास के अन्य देशों पर भी छोड़ी है, सम्पूर्ण दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया ने अपनी संस्कृति भारत से प्राप्त की है हालाकि भारतीय संस्कृति भी कुछ हद तक चीन एवं इस्लामिक देशों से प्रभावित हुई है तब भी इसने अपनी मूल पहचान को बरकरार रखा है । पहले ये सभी क्षेत्र महान भारत के रूप में जाने जाते थे। 'विजय' नाम के पौराणिक आर्य विजेता ने सर्वप्रथम सीलोन पर विजय हासिल की , परिणामस्वरूप भारतीय संस्कृति ने संपूर्ण मध्य एशिया से चीन तक सभी को प्रभावित किया। परन्तु ऐसा माना जाता है कि 2000 वर्ष पूर्व भारत और चीन, कोरिया, जापान एवं तिब्बत से मिले थे और ये सब मिलकर एक ही देश थे ।
भारत की इस पावन धरा पर बहुत से विद्वान , आचार्य व शिक्षक हुए जिनके ज्ञान के प्रकाश ने भारत ही नहीं बल्कि विदेशों में भी अपनी गहरी छाप छोड़ी।
भारत के बहुत से आचार्यों ने पश्चिमी देशों को प्रभावित किया, जिनमें रामकृष्ण परमहंस, स्वामी विवेकानन्द तथा महात्मा गाँधी विशेष रूप से उल्लेखनीय हैं। गांधीजी की अहिंसात्मक नीति ने पश्चिमी लोगों को बहुत प्रभावित किया और विवेकानन्दजी की दिव्य साधना और अद्वितीय भाषण शैली ने पश्चिमी लोगो पर गहन छाप छोड़ी । इनमें से स्वामी विवेकानन्द का शिकागो अधिवेशन बहुत प्रसिद्ध है।
समय-समय पर विदेशी यात्री भी भारत आये, जो भारत की संस्कृति और भावना से ओत-प्रोत हो गये।
