1. In what way is the forest pool different from the one which Ranji knew
in the Rajputana desert?
Ans:- In the forest pool The water had a gentle translucency, and you could see the smooth round pebbles at the bottom of the pool. A small stream emerged from a cluster of rocks to feed the pool. During the monsoon, this stream would be a gushing torrent, cascading down from the hills, but during the summer, it was barely a trickle. The rocks, however, held the water in the pool, and it did not dry up like the pools in the plains. in other side when he had lived with his parents in a thirsty town in the middle of the Rajputana desert. There, he had known only sticky, muddy pools, where buffaloes wallowed and women washed clothes. He had never seen a pool like this — so clean and cold and inviting. It was the difference between a forest pool and a Rajputana desert pool.

2. Between Ranji and the other boy, who is trying to start a quarrel? Give a reason for your answer.
Ans. When Ranji was lying on the bank of the pool, he noticed that a boy standing at a distance was staring at Ranji with hostility, but Ranji did not say anything to him, then the boy said, "What are you doing here, this is my pool." Ranji was ready to befriend that boy, but Ranji was surprised by this behavior of that boy, thus claiming his right over the pool, that boy started the fight. The boy's rude behavior became the reason for the quarrel between the two.
जब रणजी तालाब के किनारे लेटे थे, तो उन्होंने देखा कि दूर खड़ा एक लड़का रणजी को शत्रुता से घूर रहा था, लेकिन रणजी ने उससे कुछ नहीं कहा, तो लड़के ने कहा, "तुम यहाँ क्या कर रहे हो, यह है मेरा तालाब।" रणजी उस लड़के से दोस्ती करने के लिए तैयार थे, लेकिन रणजी उस लड़के के इस व्यवहार से हैरान थे, इस तरह तालाब पर अपना अधिकार जताते हुए उस लड़के ने लड़ाई शुरू कर दी। लड़के का अभद्र व्यवहार दोनों के बीच झगड़े का कारण बना।

3. “Then we will have to continue the fight,” said the other.
(i) What made him say that?
Ans. A fight starts between Ranji and the boy over the pool, both of them declare themselves to be great fighter , the fight begins, both attack each other, both wrestlers give equal competition to each other. In no time both get tired but the fight does not yield any result. Then the boy asks Ranji "Will you leave this pool now" then Ranji says "No" "Then we will have to continue the fight" says the boy.
रणजी और लड़के के मध्य तालाब को लेकर लड़ाई शुरू हो जाती है दोनों ही एक अपने आप को महान पहलवान घोषित करने लगते है , लड़ाई शुरू होती है दोनों ही एक दूसरे पर वार करते है ,दोनों ही पहलवान एक दूसरे को बराबरी से टक्कर देते है कुछ ही समय में दोनों थक जाते है परन्तु लड़ाई का कोई परिणाम नहीं निकलता है। तब लड़का रणजी से पूछता है "क्या अब तुम इस तालाब को छोड़ दोगे " तब रणजी कहते है "नहीं " " फिर हमें लड़ाई जारी रखनी होगी " लड़का कहता है।
(ii) Did the fight continue? If not, why not?
Ans. The next day when both the boys came for the fight, both of them were standing on different banks of the pool, then the boy called Ranji and asked him to come to the end where the boy was standing. Ranji dived into the water and reached the end of the river in no time, the boy was surprised to see this talent of Ranji and started asking him to teach swimming, on the other hand Ranji was also impressed by that boy's fighting style. He also started asking her to learn fighting. In this way an agreement was reached between the two and the enmity between the two turned into friendship and the fight ended.
अगले दिन जब लड़ाई के लिए दोनों लड़के आये तब वे दोनों ही नदी के अलग अलग किनारो पर खड़े थे , तब उस लड़के ने रणजी को आवाज लगाकर उस छोर पर आने को कहा जहां वह लड़का खड़ा था। रणजी ने पानी में गोता लगाया और कुछ ही समय में नदी के छोर पर पहुंच गया , वह लड़का रणजी की इस प्रतिभा को देखकर अचंभित हो गया और उससे तैराकी सिखाने को कहने लगा , दूसरी तरफ रणजी भी उस लड़के की लड़ने की शैली से प्रभाबित थे वह भी उससे पहलवानी सीखने को कहने लगे। इस तरह दोनों के बीच समझौता हो गया और दोनों के बीच की दुश्मनी दोस्ती में बदल गई और लड़ाई खत्म हो गई।

4. What is it that Ranji finds difficult to explain at home?
Ans. When Ranji got home, he found it difficult to explain the cuts
and bruises that showed on his face, leg and arms. It was difficult
to conceal the fact that he had been in an unusually violent
fight, and his mother insisted on his staying at home for the
rest of the day .
5. Ranji sees his adversary in the bazaar.
(i) What does he wish to do?
(ii) What does he actually do, and why?
Ans. He had just finished the lemonade . Then he saw his rival walking on the road. He was in an impulse to overcome what he thought of looking away and looking elsewhere and throwing a bottle of lemonade at his enemy. but they didn't do any of these, Instead he stood his ground and shouted at him, the warrior who was passing by. And the warrior didn't say anything and he shouted back with equal ferocity.

6. Ranji is not at all eager for a second fight. Why does he go back to the
pool, then?
Ans. The next day was as hot as the previous one. Ranji felt weak and lazy and not at all eager for a fight. His body was stiff and sore after the previous day’s encounter. But he could not refuse the challenge. Not to turn up at the pool would be an acknowledgement of defeat. From the way he felt just then he knew he would be beaten in another fight. But he could not acquiesce in his own defeat. He must defy his enemy to the last, or outwit him, for only then could he gain his respect. If he surrendered now, he would be beaten for all time; but to fight and be beaten today left him free to fight and be beaten again. As long as he fought, he had a right to the pool in the forest.
अगला दिन पिछले वाले की तरह ही गर्म था। रणजी को कमजोरी महसूस हुई और आलस और लड़ाई के लिए बिल्कुल भी उत्सुक नहीं था । पिछले दिन की मुलाकात के बाद उसका शरीर कठोर और पीड़ादायक था। लेकिन वह चुनौती को मना नहीं कर सका । पूल में नहीं आना हार की स्वीकृति होगी। जिस तरह से उसने महसूस किया था, उसी समय उसे पता था कि वह हार जाएगा लेकिन वह अपनी पराजय को स्वीकार नहीं कर सका। अगर उसने अब आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया, तो अच्छा नहीं होगा। अपने दुश्मन को आखिरी तक ललकारना चाहिए, या उसे पछाड़ देना चाहिए, क्योंकि तभी उसे अपना सम्मान मिलता है। तभी वह तालाब पर अपना हक़ जता पाएगा।
7. Who was the better swimmer? How do you know it?
Ans. Ranji was a better swimmer because he used to go swimming with his friends where he lived with his parents, when the wrestler boy called Ranji to the other end of the pond to fight, he dived and very rarely The wrestler boy was surprised to see that he reached the other side of the pond in time, and requested Radji to teach him swimming. This shows that Ranji was a good swimmer.
रणजी बेहतर तैराक था क्योकि जहां वह अपने माता पिता के साथ रहता था वह पर वो अक्शर अपने दोस्तों के साथ तैरने जाया करता था , जब पहलवान लड़के ने रणजी को लड़ने के लिए तालाब के दूसरे छोर पर बुलाया तब उसने गोता लगाया और बहुत ही कम समय में तालाब के दूसरी तरफ पहुंच गया यह देखकर पहलवान लड़का आश्चर्य चकित हो गया , और उसने राडजी से तैरना सिखाने का आग्रह किया। यह दर्शाता है की रणजी अच्छे तैराक थे।

8. What surprises the warrior?
Ans. It is surprising to see Ranji coming from one end of the pond to the other in a very short time by diving in the water, Ranji swims very efficiently in the water.
रणजी के पानी में गोता लगाकर बहुत ही कम समय में तालाब के एक छोर से दूसरे छोर तक आते देखकर आश्चर्य होता है , रणजी पानी में बहुत ही कुशलतापूर्वक तैरते है।
9. What, according to you, makes the two adversaries turn into good friends in a matter of minutes? Explain it as you have understood it.
Ans. Both the opponents are fighting to claim their right on the same pond, when they fight they end up on each other. Ranji becomes acquainted with the wrestler's fighting skills, and when the wrestler sees that Ranji is very skilled at diving, they are both impressed by each other's hidden talents. And urge to train each other with their talents, in this way a mutual agreement is reached between the two, which turns into friendship.
दोनों विरोधी एक ही तालाब पर अपना अपना हक़ जताने के लिए लड़ रहे होते है ,जब वे लड़ते है तब एक दूसरे पर भरी पड़ते है। रणजी पहलवान की लड़ने की कुशलता से परिचित हो जाते है, साथ ही जब पहलवान देखता है की रणजी गोता लगाने में बहुत ही कुशल है तब वह दोनों ही एक दूसरे के अंदर छुपी प्रतिभा से प्रभावित होते है। और अपनी प्रतिभा से एक दूसरे को प्रशिक्छित करने का आग्रह करते है इस तरह दोनों के मध्य पारस्परिक समझौता होता है, जो दोस्ती में बदल जाता है।
