Question-answer
1. Why didn't he pay the school fees on the day he brought the money?
( जिस दिन वह पैसे लेकर आया उस दिन उसने स्कूल की फीस क्यों नहीं भरी?)
Ans. The day the boy came to school with the money, the boy could not pay the school fees because the teacher, Master Ghulam Mohammad, was on leave.
(जिस दिन लड़का पैसे लेकर स्कूल आया उस दिन लड़का स्कूल की फीस नहीं भर सका क्योंकि शिक्षक मास्टर गुलाम मोहम्मद छुट्टी पर थे।)
(i) What were the coins ‘saying’ to him?
(सिक्के उसे क्या बता रहे थे?)
Ans. Jalebis are meant to be eaten and only those with money in their pocket can eat them, And money isn’t for nothing. Money is meant to be spent and only they spend it, who like jalebis.”
(सिक्कों ने उसे बताया, जलेबियाँ खाने के लिए होती हैं और केवल जेब में पैसे वाले ही इसे खा सकते हैं, और पैसा ऐसा नहीं है। संपत्ति यह खर्च करने के लिए होता है और जलेबी पसंद करने वाले ही इसे खर्च करते हैं।)
(ii) Do you think they were misguiding him?
(क्या आपको लगता है कि सिक्के उसे गुमराह कर रहे थे?)
Ans. Yes, the coins were misguiding him. Even though the money was for the payment of fees, they urged him to spend it all on jalebis.
(हां, सिक्के उसे गुमराह कर रहे थे। भले ही पैसा फीस के भुगतान के लिए था, उन्होंने उससे जलेबियों पर खर्च करने का आग्रह किया।)
2. Why didn’t he take the coins’ advice? Give two or three reasons.
(उसने सिक्कों की सलाह क्यों नहीं मानी? दो या तीन कारण दीजिए।)
Ans. He didn't take the coins advice beacuse
(i) He considerd himself a good boy.
(ii) He got enough to eat at home, so he thought it was a sin to eat at bajar.
(iii) He knew if he spent the money on jalebis, he would not be able to pay the school fee.
(iv) If he spend money today,
then how shall he show his face to Master Ghulam Mohammed in school tomorrow and after that to Allah miyan at Qayamat? ( उसने सिक्कों की सलाह इसलिए नहीं मानी क्योंकि -
(i) वह खुद को अच्छा लड़का समझता था।
(ii) उसे घर में खाने के लिए पर्याप्त भोजन मिलता था, इसलिए उसने सोचा कि बाजार से खाना पाप है।
(iii) वह जानता था कि अगर उसने जलेबियों पर पैसा खर्च किया, तो वह स्कूल की फीस नहीं भर पाएगा।
(iv) यदि वह आज पैसा खर्च करता है,तो वह कल मास्टर गुलाम मोहम्मद को अपना चेहरा कैसे दिखायेगा और उसके बाद क़यामत में अल्लाह मियाँ को?)
3. What did the oldest coin tell him?
(सबसे पुराने सिक्के ने उसे क्या बताया?)
Ans. The oldest coin tells him that "we are saying this for your own good and you try to strangle us instead. Now be honest, Don't you feel like eating those piping hot jalebis? And then, if you spend us for jalebis today, won't you get scholarship money tomorrow? Eat jalebi with the money of fees and pay the fees with the money of scholarship. End of story! The story is over, the money is digested.
(उत्तर. सबसे पुराना सिक्का उसे कहता है कि "यह हम आपके भले के लिए कह रहे हैं और आप इसके बजाय हमारा गला घोंटने की कोशिश करते हैं। अब ईमानदारी से बताए, क्या आपको वो गरम गरम जलेबियाँ खाने का मन नहीं करता? और फिर, यदि आप हमे आज जलेबी के लिएं खर्च करते है तो कल क्या आपको छात्रवृत्ति का पैसा नहीं मिलेगा ? फीस के पैसे से जलेबी खाए और स्कॉलरशिप के पैसों से फीस का भुगतान करे। कहानी का अंत! किस्सा खतम, पैसा हज़्म।")
4. Did he follow his advice? If not, why not?
(क्या उसने सिक्को की सलाह मानी? अगर नहीं, तो क्यों नहीं?)
Ans. No, the boy did not follow the coins advice initially. He was an honest and promising student and thought he couldn’t defame his reputed family by spending his school fees to buy jalebis. Moreover, he was aware of the harsh punishment that the teacher would inflict upon him if the school fees were not paid on time.
( उत्तर. नहीं, लड़के ने शुरुआत में सिक्कों की सलाह नहीं मानी। वह एक ईमानदार और होनहार छात्र था और सोचता था कि जलेबियाँ खरीदने के लिए अपनी स्कूल की फीस खर्च करके वह अपने प्रतिष्ठित परिवार को बदनाम नहीं कर सकता। इसके अलावा, वह कठोर दंड से अवगत था कि यदि स्कूल की फीस समय पर भुगतान नहीं की गई तो शिक्षक उस पर भारी पड़ेगा।)
5. He reached home with the coins in his pocket. What happened then?
(वह जेब में सिक्के लेकर घर पहुंचा। फिर क्या हुआ?)
Ans. He reached home with the coins and sat on the bed, then the coins started speaking, he went to eat food, they started screaming. He was completely fed up, the boy left the house barefoot and ran towards the market. He was nervous, he reached the market and asked the confectioner to weigh the jalebi of one rupee.
(वह घर पहुँच कर पलंग पर बैठ गया, तभी सिक्के बोलने लगे , वह खाना खाने के लिए गया वे चीखने लगे। वह पूरी तरह से तंग आ चुका था, लड़का नंगे पांव घर से निकला और बाजार की तरफ भागा। वह घबरा गया था, उसने बाजार पहुंचकर, हलवाई को एक रुपया की जलेबी तौलने के लिए कहा दिया।)
6. Why didn’t he eat all the jalebis he had bought?
(उसने सारी जलेबियाँ क्यों नहीं खा लीं जो उसने खरीदी थीं?)
Ans. He had bought a lot of jalebis, did not eat them all because he had eaten so many jalebis that if someone pressed his stomach even a little, jalebis would come out of his ears and nose.
( उसने बहुत सारी जलेबियाँ खरीदी ली थीं, वे सब नहीं खाईं क्योंकि वह इतनी सारी जलेबियाँ खा चुका था कि अगर कोई उसका पेट थोड़ा भी दबाता तो उसके कान और नाक से जलेबियाँ निकल जातीं।)
7. What did he do with the remaining jalebis?(उसने बची हुई जलेबियों का क्या किया?)
Ans. The boy was very happy after filling his stomach with jalebis, but jalebia was still left, he started distributing jalebis to the children standing around him, they ran away and shouted in the street and called more children. Soon a lot of other kids gathered. The boy went to the confectioner and bought jalebis for another rupee, turned back and stood generously on the plinth of a house, and the way the governor used to distribute rice to the poor and needy on Independence Day . In the same way he distributed jalebis to the children.
(जलेबियों से अपना पेट भरने के बाद लड़का बहुत प्रसन्न था, लेकिन जलेबिया अब भी बची हुई थी ,उसने अपने आसपास खड़े बच्चों को जलेबियाँ बटना शुरू कर दिया, वे बच्चे भागकर गए और गली में चिल्लाकर और बच्चों को बुला लाए । जल्द ही बहुत सारे अन्य बच्चे इकट्ठे हो गए ।लड़का हलवाई के पास गया और एक और रुपये की जलेबी खरीदी, पीछे मुड़कर एक घर के चबूतरे पर उदारतापूर्वक खड़ा हो गया ,और जिस तरह राज्यपाल साहब स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर गरीबों और जरूरतमंदों को चावल बांटते थे। उसी तरह उसने बच्चों को जलेबी बांट दी। )
8. “The fear was killing me.” What was the fear?("डर मुझे मार रहा था।" वह डर क्या था?)
Ans. After buying and eating jalebis with the school fee money, the boy realized that he had made a big mistake. He was completely terrified of getting caught and thought that if his parents came to know about his act, they would not spare him. With every breath there was belching, and with every belch there was a danger of spitting out a jalebi or two; This fear was killing him.
(स्कूल की फीस के पैसे से जलेबी खरीदने और खाने के बाद लड़के को एहसास हुआ कि उसने बहुत बड़ी गलती की है। वह पकड़े जाने के डर से पूरी तरह से डर गया था और उसने सोचा कि अगर उसके माता-पिता को उसके कृत्य के बारे में पता चला, तो वे उसे नहीं बख्शेंगे। हर सांस के साथ डकार आ रही थी, और हर डकार के साथ एक या दो जलेबी निकालने का खतरा; यह डर उसे मार रहा था।)
9. How did he plan to pay the fees the next day?(उसने अगले दिन फीस भरने की योजना कैसे बनाई?)
Ans. He had planned to pay his fees that because Master Ghulam Mohammed was on leave, so today he will eat jalebi with the fee money and tomorrow when he will get the scholarship, he will pay the fees with that money.
( उसने अपनी फीस भरने के लिए योजना बनाई थी के क्योंकि मास्टर गुलाम मोहम्मद छुट्टी पर थे इसीलिए आज वह फीस के पैसे से जलेबी खायेगा और कल जब उसे छात्रवृत्ति मिलेगी तो उन पैसों से वह फीस जमा कर देगा।)
10. When it is time to pay the fees, what does he do? How is he disobeying.
(जब फीस देने का समय आता है, तो वह क्या करता है? वह कैसे अवज्ञा कर रहा है)
Ans. When it was time to pay the fees, he tucked his bag in his arm and left the school with his head down. He kept on walking, praying for some miracle to happen that would save him for once. He reached Kambelpur railway station. The elders had warned him never to cross the railway track. That's why he started praying to Allah Miya sitting near a tree, there he read Quran, elders also warned him never to eat sweets with fee money. However, he disobeyed them by doing so.
(जब फीस देने का समय आया तो उसने अपना बैग बाँह में दबा लिया और सिर नीचे करके स्कूल से निकल गया। वह चलता रहा, कुछ चमत्कार होने की प्रार्थना कर रहा था जो उसे एक बार बचा ले। वह कंबेलपुर रेलवे स्टेशन पहुंचा। बड़े-बुजुर्गों ने उसे चेतावनी दी थी कि वह कभी भी रेल की पटरी पार न करे। इसलिए वह एक पेड़ के पास बैठकर आल्हा मिया से प्रार्थना करने लगा , वहा उसने कुरान पढ़ी, बड़ो ने उसे चेतावनी भी दी थी कि कभी भी फीस के पैसे से मिठाई नहीं खानी चाहिए। हालाँकि, उसने ऐसा करके उनकी अवज्ञा की थी।)
11. What was the consequence of buying jalebis with the fees money?
(फीस के पैसों से जलेबी खरीदने का क्या नतीजा हुआ?)
Ans. As per the boy's plan he ate jalebis with his fee money, he was supposed to pay the fees with his scholarship money, but the next day as he reached school he got the news that the scholarship will be paid next month, master Ghulam Mohammad announced that the fees would be taken at lunch time, on hearing this the ground slipped under the boy's feet, his head started spinning.
(लड़के की योजना के अनुसार उसने अपनी फीस के पैसे से जलेबी खा ली थी, वह अपनी स्कॉलरशिप के पैसे से फीस का भुक्तान करने वाला था , लेकिन दूसरे दिन जैसे ही वह स्कूल पहुंचा उसे यह खबर मिली के स्कॉलरशिप अगले महीने भुगतान की जायेगी, मास्टर गुलाम मोहम्मद ने यह घोषणा की के फीस लंच टाइम पर ली जायेगी, यह सुनते ही लड़के के पैरो तले जमीन खिसक गई, उसका सिर घूमने लगा ।)
12. He offers to play a game with Allah Miyan. What is the game?
(वह अल्लाह मियाँ के साथ एक खेल खेलने की पेशकश करता है। खेल क्या है?)
Ans. The game was that the boy would go from where he was standing to the signal and come back. Till then God will secretly keep four rupees under a big rock. Meanwhile, he would touch the signal and come back. Then when he would lift the rock and find four rupees under it.
(खेल यह था कि लड़का जहां खड़ा था वहां से सिग्नल तक जाएगा और वापस आएगा। तबतक भगवान चुपके से चार रुपये एक बड़ी चट्टान के नीचे रख देंगे। इस बीच, वह सिग्नल को छूकर वापस आ जाता। फिर जब वह चट्टान को उठाता और उसके नीचे चार रुपये मिल जाते।)
13. Did he get four rupees by playing the game? What did he get to see under the rock?
(क्या खेल खेलकर उसे चार रुपये मिले? उसने चट्टान के नीचे क्या पाया?)
Ans. No, he did not get four rupees by playing this game. When he picked up the rock he saw a big hairy worm taking the lead and staring at him, the worm crawled towards the boy, the boy got scared.
(नहीं, उसे यह खेल खेलकर चार रुपये नहीं मिले। जब उसने चट्टान को उठाया तो उसने देखा कि एक बड़ा बालों वाला कीड़ा अगड़ाई ले रहा है और उसे घूर रहा है ,वह कीड़ा लड़के की तरफ लपका ,लड़का डर गया।)
14. If God had granted his wish that day, what harm would it have caused him in later life?
(यदि परमेश्वर ने उस दिन उसकी इच्छा मान ली होती, तो क्या हानि होती?उसे बाद के जीवन में? )
Ans. If God had granted his wish that day, he would never have learnt from his mistake. He would have continued doing such wrong deeds, believing that God would save him after his persuasion.
(अगर भगवान ने उस दिन उसकी इच्छा पूरी कर दी होती, तो वह अपनी गलती से कभी नहीं सीखता। वह इस तरह के गलत काम करता रहता, यह विश्वास करते हुए कि उसके मनाने के बाद भगवान उसे बचा लेंगे।)
